I HAVE A DREAM!!!!- Dr Martin Luther King Jr
Thursday, 24 January 2013
I was doing a bit of googling and I realized that this Monday just gone 21/1/ 2013 was the 30th anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr Public Holiday in the USA. It’s amazing to think that not too long ago the levels of racism towards people with darker skin was at that level where they didn’t have the same rights as Caucasian people.
Dr Martin Luther King Jr was the guy who made the world’s biggest impact with the fight for equality between races. He did this at a time where it was an extremely dangerous and lonely thing to stand up and scream for equality, but his fearlessness and courage inspired a nation.
During his brief life 1929-1968 he fathered 4 kids, had his house bombed, was jailed over 20 times, was stabbed in the chest, gave over 2500 speeches and wrote 5 books - not bad for a minister hey ;)
Almost 45 years since his death and America has a black president, who knows what Barrack Obama would be doing today if it wasn’t for Dr King and his civil rights movement, I just wish Dr Martin Luther King Jr could have lived to see what he accomplished. In finishing I think it is highly appropriate to post the text of Dr King’s “I have a dream” speech, which is one of the greatest and most famous speeches of all time.
Thanks for Reading my tribute to the bravest man who lived =)PEACE!!!!
I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
